 Angry
That was one of my reasons for switching to Sprint in the first place in July, and of course no mentioned the pending policy change. And I had others switch because of the previous policy.  Way to go Sprint, now I will loose friends because of you.

I hope they don't do that I spend enough money, Sprint should be thanking my family member cause without them I wouldn't be paying for a cell phone. Had sprint service then cancelled for a year until family member wanted me to get a phone again.

Later: Looks like the EMP discount is only dropped from lines 3-5 so if you only have 2 lines your plan will remain unchanged.

Can anyone confirm or deny the details of these?

After more research the official statement came on statements

---Discount Policy Change Reminder---
As a reminder, Effective 08/27/10, Discounts no
longer apply to the monthly recurrint charge
for the Add-a-Phone lines beyond the first 2
lines on family or share plans.
The primary and second lines will continue to receive
discounts---

Here is what I found:

http://consumerist.com/2010/08/sprint-hikes-prices-by-dumping-discounts.html

EDIT:

The article says that it is false that it would be applied to only the first 2 lines, but I cant for the life of me figure out why:

"So if you had an employee/member discount, like for working for UPS, being a member of the armed forces, having Allstate Insurance, being in a certain credit union, or otherwise, and you had a family/share plan with multiple lines, it's only going to apply to the first phone line after Aug 27. (The notice says "primary and second" but that's a red herring as the discounts never got any discounts in the first place)."

I really hope it is still applied to both lines...I just switched my fiancee over to Sprint because she gets a 23% discount from working at Penn and it is supposed to be applied to both of our lines on our family plan.

Well, I hope this isn't true, but as far as the primary and secondary... there are no charges for the second phone for the discount to apply to. It's a "free" addon. the $19.99 additional line fee doesn't kick in till the 3rd line on a plan, which is why there's likely confusion about which phones it applies to with the first and second lines.

I'll find out in a few days, my bill cycles in 2 days, so should have my bill by the end of the week. I've got 3 lines on a family share (not the unlimited though). My other thought was it may be targeted at the unlimited family plans like discounts are screwed for the individual unlimited plans. But only a thought, can't confirm that.

Reading the link, the only thing that's charged for on lines 3-5 anyway (that the discount could apply to previously) was the $19.99 add on fee. So for me, I get a 27% discount, which means I'd lose $5.40 in discounts a month. Never the best thing to have happen, but even with it, I'm still getting way cheaper service for 3 phones than anywhere else. $5 isn't the end of the world for me.

Ahh...actually this isnt a huge deal then.  If the additional line is only $19.99, even with one of the biggest discounts, say 27%,  you would only see about a $5 increase on your bill per phone if my math is correct.

Well I just got back from the sprint store and signed up for 4 lines with the  family plan 1500 any time , and the sprint store told me the same thing about lines 3 and 4 not having the discount, however when I called to activate the lady told me she didn't know about the change and I would still get the discount on all 4 lines. I told her what sprint told me, she said that she would have been the first to know and gave me a price on my first bill. I am confused about this. Either way I am now the proud ower of 2 evos and 2 epics. I don't know if it's because of my UPS discount or she is misinformed. Only time will tell, but they did knock off 25 dollars off the total price of the 4 phones and threw in 3 car chargers and a couple of rubber phone protecters for the 2 evo's. These are my first smarts, so I hope it was worth it.

It's clear the policy has changed.  I hope you get to keep your discount but you will probably find it gone with the next full billing or soon thereafter.

BTW, extensive discussion on the topic in the plans section of the Sprint Community Forum.

I doubt they will give you anything extra for having two jobs that are on the list.  You will just get the biggest discount of the two, which doesnt matter in your case.

So I also switched to Sprint in June based on the generous 5 line discount plan coupled with the launch of the EVO. I am really pi$$ed off about this. The only reason I signed on with Sprint after seeing the Bogus $10.00 data Surcharge for each 4g line was I figured the 5 line discount offset that charge. Now its gone and my bill has climbed by $22.00 per month.

So here is what I did:

Last week, I called CS and asked them why my bill was higher, they explained the change in the discount program, I was really angry. I asked if the change in policy allowed me to void my contract. Back and forth for a while got nowhere.

Yesterday I had some time and I read internet complaints about this change from different sites. I found one that mentioned I could in fact void my contracts (21 months left). I called Sprint and was forwarded to the accounts retention department. A nice young lady got on the phone and we discussed the situation. I told her I wished to void my contracts and that I was not sure which carrier I was changing to. She told me she would void my 5 contracts and that I could change carriers when I had the opportunity. I actually believe that today is the last day to have the contracts voided as well. I do have a confirmation # detailing this conversation and did call back last night and I am no longer under any contract with Sprint.

That said, I am not sure if I will leave at this point, its probably still the best deal in the industry. but it sure is nice to know I can......Not sure if I can post a link to the website that I read this info at but I will and if the mods think it is improper please remove it....

If I'm not mistaken (and I could be but don't think I am), I think I remember from my contract law classes that if any company you have a contract with changes the terms of the contract, you have a certain amount of time in which to contest the contract. And they must notify you of the change to the contract, although how some go about doing that is pretty sneaky so you often never realize it. A contract is an agreement accepted between two parties. One party generally cannot unilaterally change the terms of the contract, it must be agreed upon by both parties, although some contracts state that if the other party doesn't object in x amount of time, the assumption is that they have agreed to the changes.

Sprint does claim that the contract clearly states that they can end EMP discounts at their discretion. I have yet to meet anyone who can make it through all the fine print. Im just glad that I have no contracts.....anymore.....
